1. Achieving Return on Effort ROE Achieved#
When aggressive buyers break through structural resistance: * Strong Intervention: Aggressive market participants enter with substantial size. * Complete Dominance: They overwhelm passive limit sellers on the Ask, clearing out liquidity at consecutive price ticks. * Directional Close: The candlestick closes decisively in their direction with a full body, locking in positive Return on Effort.
The Application: Confirms a genuine breakout outside the balance area. Attackers are rewarded with ROE, signifying undisputed institutional control.
2. Reading Imbalances on the Footprint#
An order flow imbalance is mathematically defined as a diagonal ratio where traded volume on one side exceeds the opposing side by a specific threshold (commonly 3:1 or 4:1 / 300% to 400%): * Buying Imbalance: Ask volume at price $X is $ge 300%$ of Bid volume at price $X - 1 ext{ tick}$. * Selling Imbalance: Bid volume at price $X$ is $ge 300%$ of Ask volume at price $X + 1 ext{ tick}$.
When three or more consecutive price ticks print imbalances in the same direction, it forms a Stacked Imbalance.
3. The Power of Stacked Imbalances#
Stacked Imbalances represent institutional footprint levels: 1. Initiative Momentum: They demonstrate that institutions are willing to pay up and chase price aggressively. 2. Support and Resistance: Because large institutions initiated aggressive risk at these levels, they will actively defend them on any subsequent pullback. 3. Invalidation Level: If price subsequently slices through a stacked buying imbalance and closes below it, the aggressive thesis is instantly invalidated.
